Alexander was raised in Gippsland in regional Victoria, where studied under Judy Hall OAM. After graduating from secondary school Alexander continued his piano tuition with Timothy Young and in 2011 relocated to Sydney to undertake tertiary studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During his time at the university Alexander studied with Dr. Paul Rickard-Ford and was a recipient of several awards, including the Bessie Cook Award, the David & Nhila Dumbrell Scholarship and an instrumental scholarship whilst residing at St. Andrew’s College in 2012. He was also involved in programs which saw him touring across the Central West of New South Whales and travelling to Verona, Italy. Alexander graduated from the Bachelor of Music (Performance) with First Class Honours in 2014.
Alexander has gained his AMusA and LMusA, receiving both diplomas with distinction. He has won first prizes in the Regional Victoria Eisteddfod and the Sydney Eisteddfod and while studying at the Sydney Conservatorium was selected to perform recitals in the Theme and Variations’ Emerging Artists Series. He has also been a semi-finalist in Fine Music 102.5’s Young Virtuosi Award.
Currently, Alexander is studying at the Australian National Academy of Music with Timothy Young. Highlights of 2016 include performances with tenor Steve Davislim, Vienna Philharmonic Principal Flute Silvia Caredde and with the Elision Ensemble at the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music. Alexander has also been involved in chamber music, performing at the Melbourne Festival and Up Your Alley Music Festival.
He will perform a set of four works for solo piano:
- Postlude XII by Daniel Riley
- Nocturne no. 13 in B minor, op.119 by Gabriel Fauré
- Presto in B flat by Francis Poulenc
