We are really launching into the season now! In our fourth week of The Talent, you’ll hear cellist Charlotte Miles.
Charlotte Miles was only 13 years old when she auditioned for The Talent and studies cello with David Berlin, Principal Cellist in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She completed her AMEB Licentiate Diploma with distinction at the age of 12. Charlotte has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall in New York (2013) and Opéra Bastille in Paris (2015) after winning 1st prizes in international music competitions. Recent highlights include over 60 competition prizes, including the $2000 Richard Mills 1st prize in the 2014 Melbourne Recital Centre Bach Competition, and open age competitions at Boroondara, Ringwood and Waverley Eisteddfods, and the South Eastern Arts Festival.
Charlotte has performed as a guest soloist with several community orchestras, performing works including the Elgar and Dvorak Cello Concertos, and was joint winner of the 2016 Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition. She had the honour of being one of only a handful of high school students invited from around the world to perform with professionals in a 100 cello ensemble at the 2016 Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles. Charlotte intends to pursue a career as a cellist when she finishes at Balwyn High School, where she is a student in their accelerated learning program.
