In Episode 6, we’ll be hearing pianist Adam McMillan. Born in Brisbane, Adam McMillan is a 22-year-old pianist currently studying the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of Timothy Young. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Class I Honours) from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he studied with Jenni Flemming, received a University Medal, a Sir Samuel Griffith scholarship, and numerous other prizes.
Recent engagements include performing in the Australian Showcase at the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia, a recital in the Brisbane Baroque Festival, multiple performances in the Australian Piano Duo Festival, the Beethoven Marathon at the Canberra International Music Festival, and performances in the Australian Voices series at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
As a student at ANAM, Adam has enjoyed working/performing with many esteemed visiting artists, including Sara Macliver, Wissam Boustany, Penelope Thwaites, David Dolan, Lisa Moore, Kathryn Stott, Richard Gill, Paavali Jumpannen, Roy Howat, and Steve Davislim. Adam’s musical passions are diverse; he enjoys solo playing, chamber playing, vocal accompaniment, contemporary music, and working with living Australian composers.
In Adam’s episode he’ll be playing Christopher Healey’s Miniature, and Alexander Scriabin’s Sonata-Fantasie in G-sharp minor, Op. 19.
