Appearing in episode 7, Nikki Edgar discovered an exciting and diverse music with inspirational figures after Living in Melbourne since moving from the country town of Castlemaine. Shes’s currently studying at Monash University in Clayton doing her bachelor of music for cello. A keen composer as well as performer, venturing into new music and improvisation. She’s had great opportunities composing for the Australian String Quartet, as well as commissions from the Inventi ensemble and solo performances for Top class and Top sound at the Melbourne recital centre and Deakin Edge.
Many great mentors and teachers including composer Adam Yee and Cellists Josephine Vains and Sam Goble have helped her develop her skill set and push her creatively. She’s very interested in the sounds which can be created with acoustic instruments that change the way people believe a traditional instruments should sound.
In her episode 7, Edgar will be performing Kaija Saariaho’s sept Papillons, an original piece called Murmur and a 5 minute improvisation.
