Chai Jie Low is 19 years old and currently in her third year of piano studies on a full scholarship at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, as a student of Professor Ian Holtham.
Fostering a deep love of music from a young age, she achieved both her AMEB Licentiate and Associate Diplomas of Music by the age of 15. At the age of 16, Chai Jie made her concerto debut performing Rachmaninov’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’ with the Queensland Pops Orchestra for its 30th Anniversary Concert at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. In 2014, Chai Jie was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Stony Brook International Piano Festival in New York where she performed solo at the New York City Yamaha Piano Salon. She was recipient of the 2012 Gladys Payne Memorial Piano Award and a finalist in the 2015 Bach Competition at the Melbourne Recital Centre. She is a recipient of the 2016 Athenaeum Club Instrumental Soloist Prize, Catherine Gra ce McWilliam scholarship and Mckay Pianoforte Scholarship.
Chai Jie hopes to pursue a career as a concert pianist and share her music with audiences around the world.
Chai will be performing Etude in D-flat major, Op.3 No.1 by Blumenfeld and Tarantella from Années de Pèlerinage (‘Years of Pilgrimage’) (Book 2) by Liszt on the 29th of August.
