New Zealand pianist Liam Wooding is studying at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of Timothy Young. He is in the final stages of completing a Master of Music degree at the University of Waikato and has completed a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Auckland where he was the recipient of the Anne Bellam Award. Liam has performed concertos with the University of Auckland Orchestra, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as a prizewinner in the 2015 National Concerto Competition, and in 2016, performed concertos by Ravel and Rachmaninoff with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Also in 2016, Liam gave recitals across New Zealand with flautist Ingrid Culliford, gave the New Zealand premiere of George Crumb’s Apparition with soprano Jennifer Maybee. Liam is actively engaged in his hometown of Whanganui. He serves as an accompanist at the New Zealand Opera School held in Whanganui each year and is involved in the Musicians for the Sarjeant initiative which supports the redevelopment of the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui. He has also participated in the inaugural Decoda/Skidmore Chamber Music Institute – a summer programme with a focus on leadership and service through music.

 

He will be performing Movements 1, 3, and 4 of Ginastera’s Sonata No. 1 on the Tuesday 19th of September!
