Xiao-Xiao Kingham – Piano
Episode 8 || 17 September 7PM
“I first began learning piano through the YAMAHA music program when I was 4, and slowly made my way through the AMEB exam grades, also taking up the violin and dabbling in composition along the way. In 2010 and 2011 I had the amazing opportunity to perform my own works overseas in Jakarta and Bangkok, respectively, as the Australian representative of the Asian Pacific Junior Original Concert. This was my first glimpse into the experience of performing in a professional concert and music hall and though it was completely terrifying it was equally enthralling and it really awakened this desire to work towards becoming a concert pianist. Following this, I was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and began learning under Glenn Riddle, who is still my teacher today. Over the past couple of years, I have continued to develop my pianistic skills and have had multiple opportunities performing in concerts, competitions and on the radio. I’ve also been composing on the side and in 2016, was one of the winners of the Artology fanfare competition, which was another amazing experience where I learnt more about the music industry, orchestral performance and the life of a musician and composer. Currently, I am a second-year student at the University of Melbourne, undertaking a Bachelor of Music Performance degree.”
