Max Jiang – Piano

Max started learning piano at the age of 6. He is currently a Year 8 student at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, learning from Ms Caroline Almonte.
Since his first competition wins at the age of 8, Max has won many prizes in Victoria, including the first prizes of the 12&u and 18&u categories of MSV (Music Society of Victoria) piano competitions in 2018, and the second prize of the 15&u category in 2019.
Earlier this year he won 3rd prize in the 18&u category at Boroondara Eisteddfod and first prize at the Leila Watson Memorial Championship in Bendigo. Other successes include the top prize in the Chopin Section of the Royal South Street Competition in Ballarat and the Open Championship of West Gippsland Eisteddfod.
Max also earned his debut solo performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre by winning the Melbourne International Piano & Strings Festival in August this year.
Max has participated in international piano festivals, including Hanoi International Piano Masterclass Festival (2018), Sydney International Piano Masterclass Festival (2019) and Gijon International Piano Festival in Spain (2019). At these festivals, he has worked with professors from some of the world’s leading music institutions, including professors Logan Skelton, Douglas Humpherys, Julian Martin and Robert McDonald.
