Our second performer on Episode 5 of The Talent is pianist Dorothy Li!
Dorothy began playing and performing at the piano at a young age and her enthusiasm for music has only increased. Born in Melbourne, she attended school there and began learning from Dr Mark McGee. In music classes offered during school she began to learn the clarinet at the age of ten and the violin the year after. However, the piano would always be her favourite instrument as she believes the piano best conveys emotions and has the greatest power to create mood and atmosphere as a soloist. Following the completion high school, she was accepted into the University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Music program during which she attended piano masterclasses in which she has both listened and played, receiving different perspectives on her performances from prestigious teachers and musicians such as Dr Di Bresciani and Dr Kenji Fujimura. Listening to others perform provided a new insight and exploration in shaping her playing. During this time, she went on exchange to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and learnt from Professor Antoinette Van Zabner, experiencing a rich culture and learning the history of western music at what was and still is the heart of music. Currently she is on her next endeavour of post graduate study in music on the piano.
Dorothy will perform:
- Chopin: Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2
