Applications for The Talent Season 2 2020 are closing soon, so if you’re an emerging musician who is keen to perform on live radio, make sure you apply! Here are some FAQs about what we do at The Talent and how to apply to audition.

WHAT IS THE TALENT ?

Established in 2013, The Talent is a live-to-air radio series devised by 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne to provide opportunities for emerging musicians to bridge the gap between their student and professional careers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Auditions for Season 2 2021 are by video only, so all you need to do to audition is fill out the audition form and send along your audition video/s. From that audition, twenty lucky musicians are selected to perform live to air on 3MBS in the Lady Marigold Southey Performance Studio. After their performance, musicians join the programme presenter and a panel of two industry mentors in the broadcast studio for an on-air interview and performance feedback.

WHAT ARE THE AUDITION VIDEO REQUIREMENTS?

Your audition videos can be one long video, or separate recordings featuring each piece. However, each piece must be a single, unedited recording. The total time of your audition recordings must be not less than 8 minutes and not more than 20 minutes long, and must show your hands and face at all times.

Your audition application will need to include at least two contrasting pieces, or contrasting movements from one piece. It must have been made within 12 months of your application, and be of excellent technical quality.

WHAT DO PERFORMERS RECEIVE?

As well as the opportunity to play live-to-air and receive feedback from industry mentors, each of the twenty performers receive a free professional headshot, learn about how to market themselves as musicians, gain radio interview skills and more.

The season winner of The Talent is awarded a recital, including a professional recording of the performance. They will also receive a 3MBS marketing package and an online rising star feature with Limelight Magazine, and more!

WHO CAN APPLY?

The Talent is open to instrumentalists, vocalists and chamber groups under 35 years of age. Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander artists and those from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
