It’s the last heat episode of Season 1 of The Talent! Our first performer is violinist Louise Turnbull. Read more about her below.

My name is Louise Turnbull, I am 15 years old and currently learn violin under Ivana Tomaskova. I completed LmusA with distinction last year and I’m now loving being able to play new repertoire and explore some new works without an exam looming or being confined to a syllabus. I currently lead the MYO flagship on viola ( Cindy Watkin) and play in AYO on violin. I really hope this year’s music programs will go ahead as playing live and traveling for music is exciting. Because of covid lockdown I have been exploring more solo works. I was able to enter online competitions during covid and have some lessons from overseas teachers and I had success in Australia and some overseas competitions- Boroondarra, Melb International, and a few others. I am currently a finalist in the 2021 Melbourne Recital Centre Bach Competition. I was also lucky to attend the ACO academy in Sydney and return before the border restrictions. Playing at Carols and Live At The Bowl concerts with MYO were my first performances with others in nearly a year. I currently do homeschooling as it allows more time for music practicing and I can study online when it suits around music commitments. I have a few silkie chooks and a crazy frizzle rooster as my pets. The silkies could definitely do with learning an instrument to improve their brain capabilities!

Louise will perform:

  • Bach: “Preludio” and “Loure” from Violin Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006
  • Ross Edwards: White Cockatoo Spirit Dance
  • Ysaye: “Obsession” from Sonata No. 2 for Violin, Op. 27

Hear Louise Turnbull perform next week on The Talent! Tune in on Tuesday, 18 May at 7pm on 103.5FM 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne, or stream the broadcast live online at 3mbs.org.au.
