Episode 6 Guest Mentor: Pianist Dr Julie Haskell

Pianist Dr Julie Haskell

Our guest mentor for tomorrow’s episode of The Talent is pianist Dr Julie Haskell, the Coordinator of Instrumental Studies at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School!

Dr Haskell taught for many years at the University of Melbourne and worked as an associate artist at the Australian National Academy of Music. She is a sought after adjudicator and has been an examiner for the Australian Music Examination Board for over 20 years. She has also presented many masterclasses, workshops and lectures to students, teachers and examiners at conferences, schools and tertiary institutions in Australia and abroad.

Julie has performed widely as a soloist, duo pianist, chamber musician and concerto soloist, more recently on historical pianos. Her interest in historically informed performance practice was inspired by her doctoral research which culminated in a series of recordings on the collection of instruments at Cornell University.

Dr Haskell is committed to promoting excellence in music education. Currently on the committee for the Association for Gifted and Talented Education Victoria and the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference Association, she previously served on the board of the Musical Society of Victoria. Julie was president of the Victorian Music Teachers Association for six years and ran several successful conferences for the VMTA and the APPCA.
