Cellist Molly Kadarauch

This week’s guest mentor is cellist Molly Kadarauch!

Molly is one of Australia’s pre-eminent and versatile cellists and has concertized at leading venues all over the world as well as within Australia as a former member of the ACO, and as a chamber musician, soloist, and symphony orchestral player. In 2010 she founded Sutherland Trio together with Elizabeth Sellars (violin) and Caroline Almonte (piano) who made regular appearances at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Digital Concert Hall, Port fairy Spring Music Festival and other regional touring venues as well as live recordings for ABC Classic FM and 3MBS radio.

Originally from California, she did her undergrad tertiary studies at the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston) with Laurence Lesser (former student of Piatigorsky) followed by a 2 year Fulbright Scholarship to Berlin where she continued under the guidance of Wolfgang Boettcher (former principal cellist of the Berlin Phil). As a student in Berlin she began and enjoyed a varied free-lancing career for a further 3 years before moving out to Australia in 1996 to join the Australian Chamber Orchestra as an associate principal cellist and core member. After leaving the ACO in 2004 she moved down to Melbourne to continue free-lancing and teaching. Her multi-faceted  free-lancing career has since  led to her performing as guest principal with many of the major Australian Symphony Orchestras, (also including the Tasmanian Symphony Orchetsra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia, and in 2019 with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra chamber players.) Other appearances have included touring Australia in “Voyage to the Moon” (a joint Musica Viva/Victorian Opera “pastiche” production, 2016), touring India and Australia with the Australian World Orchestra (2018, 2019) and participating as a soloist at the Melbourne International Cello Festival (2017). As well as her Sutherland Trio commitments, other chamber music as included performances with Richard Tognetti, Steven Isserlis, and Pieter Wispelway, Christopher Moore, Caroline Henbest, Wilma Smith, and William Barton. Molly is a passionate educator and has over the past 20 years enjoyed working with students privately from all ages and abilities as well as at the Melbourne Conservatorium, Queensland Conservatorium (Griffith University), ANAM, Monash University, the Australian Youth Orchestra, Victoria State Music Camp, Melbourne Youth Orchestra, Orchestra 21, Mt Buller and Clunes chamber music festivals.
