Baritone Michael Lampard received a Master of Music degree from the University of Tasmania before relocating to Melbourne in 2013. An Opera Australia principal artist he made his company debut in La Boheme at the Sydney Opera House in 2019, and in 2021 toured regional Australia with Opera Australia in their production of Carmen. His performances have taken him to all corners of Australia, as well Asia, the USA, the UK and Europe.
An acclaimed recitalist, he has garnered attention particularly for his work in English and new Australian art song. Operatic highlights include leading roles in Carmen, The Pearl Fishers, Tosca, La Boheme, La Traviata, Macbeth, Un Ballo in Maschera, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Cosi Fan Tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Die Zauberflöte, Tannhauser Die Walküre, and Tristan und Isolde with companies including Victorian Opera, Melbourne Opera, CitiOpera, and Australian International Touring Opera.
In 2018 Michael won the Richard Divall Prize in the Herald Sun Aria competition and in 2019 was nominated for a Green Room Award for his performance as Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde for Melbourne Opera. Upcoming roles include Dr Malatesta in Don Pasquale (GBD Productions), Dr Bartolo in The Barber of Seville (Opera Australia National Tour), and seasons on Leoncavallo’s La Boheme and Monteverdi’s Coronation of Poppea.
