Saxophonist Daniel Cheung
Daniel, aged 13, began his saxophone journey in 2019, quickly developing a deep love for the instrument. Under the guidance of previous mentors like Mr. Josh Hu and Dr. Yoyo Su, Daniel honed his skills and passion for music.
Now, as a Year 7 student at VCASS, he continues to refine his craft under the tutelage of Mr. Niels Bijl, renowned for his expertise and commitment to teaching. Daniel is grateful for the opportunity to learn from such exceptional teachers as he continues to pursue his musical aspirations.
His dedication to music is evident in his numerous accomplishments, including winning various eisteddfods and prestigious competitions like the 2023 ClaSax Championship Isobel Carter Award, Monash Youth Music Festival 2023 woodwinds 16 years and under category, as well as achieving distinction in his AMEB AMusA in Saxophone. Beyond music, Daniel enjoys diverse interests such as model kits and sports like basketball and cross country.
Daniel enjoys live performances and cherishes any opportunity to share his love of music. Teaming up with his sister Jade, the duo enchants audiences through captivating busking sessions, showcasing their musical skills. They were honoured to be invited to perform at private and charity events and local council functions such as Maroondah Festival and Neighbourhood Circle nights at The Immigration Museum.
Through music, Daniel has learned the value of hard work and the joy of self-expression. He hopes to use his music to connect people and make positive impact in the world, spreading joy and inspiration wherever his melodies take him.
Looking ahead, Daniel harbors ambitious dreams of becoming a pilot, a radiographer like his father, or pursuing a career as a renowned musician.
