Episode 1: trumpeter Alessandra Vodanovich and pianist Jack Brunialti-Sykes

The Talent is back for its second season of 2024 and we are delighted to introduce the first two of twenty exciting young performers who will be playing live on 3MBS during Season 2: trumpeter Alessandra Vodanovich and pianist Jack Brunialti-Sykes. Alessandra and Jack will each perform live to air before receiving feedback from our mentors.

Born into a family with a strong tradition of playing brass instruments, Alessandra Vodanovich thinks of the trumpet as an “inevitable” match.  At the age of 11 she started playing one of a few spare trumpets around the house and despite initial challenges, has developed a passion that means everything to her.

Learning from Tim Francis, Alessandra’s approach to music is one of discipline, motivated by a dream.  Her musical taste is broad, with favourite works including those by Tomasi, Honegger, and Hummel.  More recently she has discovered that she enjoys playing new pieces, but retains her love of the baroque style with a personal favourite being Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto.

Alessandra is currently undertaking her second year of Music Performance at Monash University achieved high distinction last semester.  She plays principal trumpet in Monash Academy Orchestra and also takes some commerce units.Paige is also a K-pop dance lover. She successfully choreographed and won the dance competition at school. Paige is passionate about singing and drama, she has passed the school audition and secured a main role in school musical production 2024. Paige also enjoyed running and swimming, she is selected to attend the District Asthletic/GSV and won multiple awards.

Alessandra will perform:

  • A.Batterham: Trumpet Concerto, mvt. 1 (Energetic), and mvt. 2 (Ballad)

Pianist Jack Brunialti-Sykes

Jack Brunialti-Sykes is a young pianist and composer from Melbourne. He began his musical journey in 2019, where his curiosity and passion for classical music was immediately apparent.

In 2020 he entered and won his first music competition, Eisteddfod by the Bay. 

Jack enjoys playing in ensembles. He was a member of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular Orchestra in 2021 and 2022.   In 2023, he was selected to play with the Melbourne Youth Orchestras, and chosen to participate in the Musica Viva Chamber Music Winter Workshop. 

Jack enjoys performing solo recitals. In 2023 he performed 3 piano recitals to standing ovations. 

He is an active member in the local music community, regularly performing with the Southern Area Concert Band and boosting morale in retirement homes.

Jack has completed Grade 7 AMEB with high distinction and is currently preparing for his Grade 8 Exam under the tutelage of Dr Nicholas Young.
