Tune into 3MBS this Tuesday night for a double-piano episode of The Talent! Pianists Thea Lukito and Anna Gao will treat us to programmes featuring Ravel, Chopin, Liebermann, and (each different) movements from Mozart’s Sonata in C minor K457! Keep reading to learn more about Thea and Anna.

Thirteen-year-old pianist Thea Lukito was born in Melbourne. She is a year 8 student at Strathcona Girls Grammar school and studies piano privately with concert pianist Dr.Elyane Laussade.

Her love for the piano began at a very young age, and her passion continues to grow with each passing year. Thea was awarded with Distinction for her AMusA exam and she was also one of the recipients from The Cope-Williams Arts Foundation.

Thea has won numerous awards for her musical talent. During 2023, her achievements include 1st place in the Open Age Duet section with her partner Gabby, and 2nd place in the Piano Solo 18 years old and under section at the Ringwood Eisteddfod. She also won 3rd place in the Piano Solo 16 years and under at the Boroondara Eisteddfod.

In addition to her musical talents, Thea loves acting, dancing and hangout with her friends. 

She thoroughly enjoys the performing arts and wishes to pursue this further.

  • M.Ravel: Oiseaux Tristes
  • F.Chopin: Etude Op.10, No.12 “Revolutionary”

Anna is currently studying a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under renowned pedagogue Glenn Riddle and after completing her Masters aspires to travel abroad to Europe in order to further her studies.

Anna has had success in numerous national competitions including winning the prestigious 2022 MBS National Fine Music Young Virtuoso Award, as well as the Margaret Schofield Chopin Prize in both 2019 and 2022. Other awards include winning the 3MBS Young Performer of the Year, Runner-up in the 3MBS ‘The Talent’, finalist in the MRC Great Romantics Competition, and 3rd Prize in the MYO Virtuosity Concerto Competition. Anna has performed concertos by Grieg and Beethoven with the Preston Symphony Orchestra, the Zelman Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and the Camerata Orchestra. Anna is an experienced recitalist and has been invited to present recitals for 3MBS, St Paul’s Lunchtime Concert Series and for the Austral Salon.

Anna will perform:

  • L.Liebermann: Gargoyles op. 29
