It’s a woodwind special on this week’s episode as we welcome flautist Molly Jenkins and Ocean Saxophone Quartet. Molly and ‘Ocean’ will perform programmes including works by Bartok, Orlovich, Singelee, and Piazzolla before receiving live-to-air feedback from Coady Green and guest mentor Lachlan Davidson. Molly Jenkins is a flautist, educator and arts administrator whose overarching passion lies in the ever-increasing use of music as a tool for both maintaining and healing mental health and wellbeing. Molly grew up on Latje Latje Country in Mildura where she was the three-time winner of the La Trobe University and Arts Mildura Woodwind Scholarship. She is now based on Wurundjeri Land in Melbourne’s North, where she completed her Bachelor of Music (with Honours) at the University of Melbourne. Molly has studied under Derek Jones, Thomas Pinschof and Josh Batty, played with The University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra as well as being principal flute/piccolo of the University of Melbourne Wind Symphony. Molly is also a passionate chamber musician. 

She has been invited to perform for both the Somer Chamber Music Society and St Pauls Anglican Cathedral’s 2022 concert series, played two sold out shows in Federation Square for Sinister Creative’s “Super Effective” and premiered Robert McIntyre’s award-winning work ‘the distance between’ live on 3MBS. She is also a founding member of the “Magpie Collective” who were the recent winners of The Victorian Flute Guild’s 2023 Open Flute Ensemble Competition. Molly currently spends most of her time teaching flute across Melbourne and looks to work towards a future where music education is accessible for all.

Ocean Saxophone Quartet

Ocean Saxophone Quartet

The Ocean Saxophone Quartet is an Asian-Australian quartet based in Melbourne; all four members born in their respective Asian countries, and later growing up in the multicultural cities of Australia. It is this distinctive voice that birthed the concept of the “Ocean Saxophone Quartet,” as it is oceans that connect foreign lands of rich cultures and unique stories, in which the quartet strives to explore through the music they perform. It is the Ocean Quartet’s mission to bring music from their familial cultures to new audiences, as well as to continue to search and learn about people and cultures from all around the world.

They will perform:
