Episode 7 Guest Mentor: pianist Yasmin Rowe

With double piano performances on this week’s episode of The Talent, we’re doubling up with incredible piano mentors as Coady Green is joined by Yasmin Rowe!

Yasmin Rowe attended the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, England) where she completed her BMus with first class honours, MMus with distinction, and an International Artist Diploma- selected as one of four instrumentalists while she studied with Stephen Savage.

She is the recipient of many British music awards, including the Peter Donohoe Piano Award, the Dame Myra Hess Award and the Maisie Lewis Young Artists award.

Yasmin has released two albums with Willowhayne Records. The first was a solo piano CD selected as the BBC Music Magazine Editor’s Choice in September 2016. The second, recorded in 2017, was a collaboration with cellist Yelian He.  Both CD’s were included on British Airways long haul flight entertainment system.

In 2021, with ABC Classics, Yasmin recorded ‘And other lines’ by Australian composer Luke Severn with Briana Leaman (Oboe) and Joseph Lallo (Saxophone).

Concerto highlights include Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto in the Ian Roach Hall at Scotch College in 2016, Schumann’s Piano Concerto at Chichester Cathedral (England) in 2017, Mozart’s K141 Concerto with Pro Musica Orchestra as part of the Scotch College Piano Festival in 2018 and Rachmaninov Variations on a theme of Paganini at the Malvern Town Hall (Melbourne) with the Stonnington Symphony Orchestra.

With performances across Victoria and internationally, Yasmin has played at the Wigmore and Bridgewater Halls in the United Kingdom; the Wuxi Grand Theatre and the Shanghai and Forbidden City Concert Halls in China; and at local venues, including the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melba Hall at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Monash University, Montsalvat, Tempo Rubato and fortyfivedownstairs. 

Throughout the Covid-19 restrictions, Yasmin performed several online solo and chamber recitals. These included a solo recital and Q&A session for Monash University’s Sound Gallery Sessions, a Beethoven recital with violinist Wilma Smith and a Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov programme for the Australian Digital Concert Hall with her trio Rock Paper Scissors. 

Yasmin is also the pianist with Collide, an ensemble with saxophonist and conductor Joseph Lallo and cellist Yelian He. 

In 2021 she was honoured to be the recipient of the Australian Geoffrey Parsons Award for collaborative piano, and in 2022 the 3rd prize winner of the Australian National Piano Award.
