We have made it to the tenth and final heats episode of the season with performances this week by cellist Yu-Hui Emily Yang and pianist Mia Gu. We welcome guest mentor – cellist David Berlin who will offer comments to our young performers alongside resident mentor Coady Green and host Heather Fletcher. Keep reading to learn more about Emily and Mia.
Cellist Yu-Hui Emily Yang
Born in Taiwan, 16-year-old Yu-Hui Emily Yang is an active soloist and chamber musician. She was the cello principal of her school’s symphony orchestra, chamber strings, and cello ensemble. Emily was invited to play and participate in masterclasses at the Melbourne Conservatorium Young Artist’s Academy with a full scholarship. Emily has received many prizes, including second prize for the Monash Youth Music Festival open age competition. Recently, she had the honour of serving as the guest cello principal with the Cloud Concert Youth Orchestra. Emily is looking forward to performing in the final round of the PolMusica competition this month. Emily is studying under Elina Faskhi and she currently attends Caulfield Grammar School.

Pianist Mia Gu
Mia Gu is a 10-year-old pianist from Melbourne, currently studying under Saran Xian Qin. She began playing the piano at the age of 6 and currently is preparing for her AMEB AmusA piano exam.
Mia has already achieved significant success of her musical career, including winning 1st place in Group A at the Polish Music Competition Australia 2022 and silver prize in the 2021 Conero International Competition. She has also received multiple awards from local eisteddfods and performed in various council showcase and concerts.
Aside from her musical pursuits, Mia is a dedicated athlete and enjoys swimming and running. As a member of Team VIC in 2022, she competed in national competitions. Mia believes that her other interests and activities help to inspire her music and keep her well-rounded.

- I.Albeniz: Evocation from Iberia
