It is our pleasure to welcome back cellist Molly Kadarauch as guest mentor for Episode 2!
Molly is one of Australia’s pre-eminent and versatile cellists and has concertized at leading venues all over the world as well as within Australia as a former member of the ACO, and as a chamber musician, soloist, and symphony orchestral player. In 2010 she founded Sutherland Trio together with Elizabeth Sellars (violin) and Caroline Almonte (piano) who made regular appearances at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Digital Concert Hall, the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, and other regional touring venues as well as live recordings for ABC Classic FM and 3MBS radio.
Originally from California, she did her undergraduate tertiary studies at the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston) with Prof. Laurence Lesser, followed by a 2-year Fulbright Scholarship to Berlin where she continued studying under the guidance of Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher (former principal cellist of the Berlin Philarmonic). After studies in Berlin, she also enjoyed a varied freelancing career in Europe and the USA before moving out to Australia in 1996 to join the Australian Chamber Orchestra as an Associate Principal Cellist and core member. In 2004 she decided to move down to Melbourne (which had been her favourite touring venue!) to continue performing and teaching. From that point on, her multi-faceted freelancing career led her to be invited as Guest Principal with many of the major Australasian Symphony Orchestras, (including the TSO, SSO, WASO, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia, MSO and in 2019 with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra chamber players.) Other projects of note have included touring Australia in “Voyage to the Moon” (a joint Musica Viva/Victorian Opera “pastiche” production), touring India and Australia with the Australian World Orchestra, and performing locally as a soloist at the Melbourne International Cello Festival, concertos with the Heidelberg Symphony, Melbourne Musicians and Orchestra 21. She is a frequent participant in many chamber music festivals including Port Fairy, Huntington, Peninsula and Hepburn Springs. Molly is a passionate educator and has over the past twenty years enjoyed working with students from the Australian National Academy of Music, Queensland Conservatorium (Griffith University), Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Monash University, the Australian Youth Orchestra, Victoria State Music Camp, Melbourne Youth Orchestra, Orchestra 21, and the Mt. Buller and Clunes Chamber Music Festivals.
