Congratulations to baritone Bailey Montgomerie, oboist Isaac Wong, and pianist Jacob Wang who are our finalists for Season 2 of 2024! The three finalists will perform again during our finale episode on Tuesday 22nd of October before being placed into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize by resident mentor Coady Green and guest mentor Andrew Wailes.

Baritone Bailey Montgomerie

Bailey Montgomerie is an emerging baritone, artistic director, and a fierce advocate for the development of local Australian creative arts and artists.  

As Co-artistic Director of Divisi, Bailey prioritises the commissioning and performance of innovative new works from emerging and under-represented composers, especially from the LGBTQ+ community.  

On the operatic stage, they have solo credits with most of Melbourne’s premier opera companies including Victorian Opera, the Australian Contemporary Opera Company and Lyric Opera’s production of Biographica, for which Bailey was nominated for a 2024 Green Room Award.  

Bailey is equally passionate about chamber and choral performance. They have appeared with ensembles across the East Coast including with the Song Company as an emerging artist, the Consort of Melbourne, and of course with Divisi.

Bailey appeared on Episode 3 of The The Talent Season 2 2024 and for their finale performance will perform:

Oboist Isaac Wong

Isaac Wong is 13 years old and currently in year 8 at McKinnon Secondary College. He started playing the oboe at the age of 9 when he was still in Hong Kong. Currently studying between Emmanuel Cassimatis and Martin Lee, Isaac completed his Grade 8 comprehensive oboe exam last year, passing with honours. 

Isaac recently had the chance to perform Air from Bach’s Easter Oratorio with McKinnon’s Chamber Strings ensemble. He currently plays in the Australian Youth Band and will be auditioning for the Melbourne Youth Orchestra next year. He is also working towards his Certificate of Performance. 

Isaac appeared on Episode 6 of The The Talent Season 2 2024 and for his finale performance will play:

• Paul Hindemith: Oboe Sonata, mvt. 1
• Tomaso Albinoni: Oboe Concerto, mvt. 2

Pianist Jacob Wang

Jacob Wang is 13 years old and commenced his piano journey at the age of 6. He passed AMusA in 2023 and is now preparing for LMusA on piano. His piano teacher is Alison Kirkpatrick. 

Jacob has achieved prizes and awards including First prize at the Ringwood Eisteddfod, finalist in the 16 years and under age group at Boroondara Eisteddfod, as well as finalist at the PolMusicA music competition in Melbourne.  

At Trinity Grammar, Jacob performs in choral concerts and big bands. 

Jacob is particularly drawn to 20th-century music, such as French impressionists and the percussive rhythms of South American composers such as Ginastera.  

Jacob loves playing soccer and enjoys reading books of a Dystopian Genre and coding computer games. Music is an important part of his life, especially when performing as it allows him to convey his interpretations and expressions to the listener. 

Jacob appeared on Episode 6 of The The Talent Season 2 2024 and for his finale performance will play:

• Maurice Ravel: Une Barque Sur L’océan from Miroirs
• Alberto Ginastera: Criolla from Tres Piezas Op.6
