Season 2 Mentor: Julia Hastings

We are excited to announce that the regular mentor for Season 2 of The Talent will be pianist, Julia Hastings.


Julia Hastings is a classical pianist based in Melbourne, Australia. A regular recitalist and chamber musician, Julia is known for her expressive pianism and virtuosity, and her engaging stage presence. Julia is also a writer and actor and her original one-woman show, Fame Fortune & Lies : the Life and Music of Eileen Joyce, enjoyed a sell-out premiere season in Melbourne in 2015.

Recent performance highlights include piano soloist in Mendelssohn’s Concerto No 1 in G Minor with the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra as well as collaborations with pianists Lisa Moore, Kathryn Stott, Penelope Thwaites and Michael Houstoun, and soprano Sara MacLiver. Julia is regularly broadcast on 3MBS and ABC Classic FM.

Julia completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the University of Melbourne, Conservatorium of Music in 2013 where she studied under the guidance of Anna Goldsworthy and Ronald Farren-Price.  During the course of her degree, Julia was awarded numerous scholarships and prizes including the John Hellyar Piano Scholarship, the Gardiner Scholarship for Piano, the Kefford ME Scholarship for Music, the Harold Newey Music Lovers’ Society Prize and the Athenaeum Chamber Music Prize from the Faculty of Music.

In 2014 and 2015, Julia studied at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) where she completed the Professional Performance Program under the guidance of Timothy Young.

Julia has undertaken a study tour of the United States and England and has had lessons at the Juilliard School with Jerome Lowenthal, the Manhattan School of Music with Marc Silverman, Yale University with Lisa Moore and the Royal Academy of Music in London with Joanna MacGregor.

In 2016, Julia completed an Actors Residency at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
